Mike Watt and Deerhoof's John Dietrich Team Up as the Hand to Man Band

This year is shaping up to be a big one for punk bassist extraordinaire Mike Watt. Already we've learned about his upcoming tour diary On and Off Bass, a retrospective compilation and tour dates from his old fIREHOSE project, the first full-length from new supergroup Anywhere, and now he's announced another debut from another collaborative project, the Hand to Man Band.

The group's debut disc You Are Always On Our Minds was technically recorded in 2010, but Post-Consumer Records will deliver the disc May 22. The sessions were tracked in Austin, TX during some spare time the seasoned scene vets had squirreled away from their other projects.

On top of Watt's low-end riffing, the outfit's lineup also includes Deerhoof guitarist John Dietrich, pianist Thollem McDonas (Tsigoti), and former Silver Jews skinsman Tim Barnes. The album reportedly delivers everything from "psychotropic jazz to konked-out funk to skronked-out dirges to alien transmissions to plaintive nocturnal pleas."

A tracklist has yet to appear, but key tracks apparently include "Forces Conspiring" and the shambolic "The Down Moveables." You can stream the group's tripped-out "First Shallows" on a Post-Consumer sampler down below, which also includes new tracks from the rest of the label roster, including Death Songs and Bucky Sinister.
