Metronomy

"You Could Easily Have Me"

If punk is an attitude and not restricted to a style of music then Metronomy is, pardon my French, punk as fuck. Basically the solo project of Joseph Mount (who has a live band when he needs them), Metronomy is an askew project that blurs the lines between IDM, pop and art punk without any regard for cohesion. And yet somehow it's brilliant! Founded when Mount bought a G3, he whipped up a debut album called Pip Paine (Pay Back the £5000 You Owe), which quickly caught on with the likes of Gorillaz, Roots Manuva and Franz Ferdinand, who all commissioned him for remixes. "You Could Easily Have Me" is like an acid-road-trip: the off-key guitars sound like a motor possessed by the Devil, the beat remains steady but could fall off any moment and the synths speak wonky talk like the Great Gazoo whispering the details of your death wish. Or something even crazier - just watch the video.
