Mandy Moore, Karen Elson Respond to Ryan Adams's Public Apology

"l do find it curious that someone would do an interview about it without actually making amends privately"

Over the weekend, disgraced musician Ryan Adams penned a public apology for the ways he "mistreated" people throughout his life, failing to admit to any specific allegations lodged against him or name any individuals he has harmed in the past. Now, his ex-wife Mandy Moore, along with Karen Elson, have spoken out against the artist for not contacting them directly for the apology.

Moore responded to Adams's apology earlier today, in conversation with the Today Show, pointing out that he has yet to contact her personally about the "unhealthy dynamic" she experienced while married to him.

"I've not heard from him," she said. "I'm not looking for an apology necessarily, but l do find it curious that someone would do an interview about it without actually making amends privately."

Meanwhile, Elson responded via her Twitter account on Friday (July 3), writing, "I would like to hope he would contact women he has hurt via his representatives to apologize privately and give us the opportunity to speak our truth on all the ways his actions caused suffering and for him to listen and try to make amends."

However, she deleted the tweets earlier today, though you can still read the text below.

In the open letter, published on Friday by the Daily Mail, Adams wrote the lengthy apology presumably in response to allegations lodged against him over a year ago.

"There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I've mistreated people throughout my life and career," he wrote. "All I can say is that I'm sorry. It's that simple. This period of isolation and reflection made me realize that I needed to make significant changes in my life."

The artist pledged to do better by holding himself accountable for his harmful actions, sobering up and getting "professional help," among other steps. Adams also added that he has been working through his issues by writing music, enough to "fill half a dozen albums," according to the letter. At no point in the letter does he address specific allegations.

"I made a promise to myself that no matter what it took, I would get to the root of these issues and finally start to fix myself so I could be a better friend, a better partner, and a better man overall," he added. "That being said, no amount of growth will ever take away the suffering I had caused. I will never be off the hook and I am fully accountable for my harmful behavior, and will be for my actions moving forward."

About a year ago, Adams announced he had "a lot to say" regarding the allegations and that he would do so "soon." In early 2019, he was accused of abuse by multiple women, which resulted in an FBI inquiry into an alleged online relationship with an underage fan. His album and tour were subsequently cancelled, and Adams went silent for months following.
