Magic Kids Explore Memphis on Debut Full-Length

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 16, 2010

In 2009, Memphis, TN jangle pop experts Magic Kids turned a lot of heads on the strength of their "Hey Boy" single. The song, a vintage feel-good pop charmer, was stuck in our heads and playlists for a while. Since then, the band have been touring relentlessly, but they've finally announced the details of their debut full-length.

The record is fittingly called Memphis and will be released by taste-making Matador offshoot True Panther Sounds in the late summer. According to a press release, the album features "touches of late '80s Britpop, the Delphonics' heartbreaking harmonies, ELO's grandeur, and Belle & Sebastian's intimacy." It also includes the track "Hey Boy" for those latecomers. Another album track "Summer" can be heard here.

True Panther Sounds will unleash Memphis on August 31. As previously reported, Magic Kids will spend July and August touring with Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. That run of shows includes Canadian stops in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
