Madcaps

Whole World

BY Dan CohenPublished May 1, 2003

A lot of bass and a lot of ’70s style vocals make up the Madcaps groove rock; they work a keyboard and a saxophone into the traditional bass-guitar-drums domination of funk-rock bands. The additional instruments, the saxophone especially, really fill out the bands sound, giving them more of a jazzy feel than the average funk-rock band, and adding an extra punch when the band rocks out. The band has a tendency to fall into the self-indulgent, emphasising the last syllable of every word over a funky beat, style of funk-rock and a lot of what they do is horribly cliché, but when they're rocking out and the horn is blazing the music has a solid groove to it.
