Lowest of the Low have detailed their sixth studio LP. The Canadian indie vets will deliver Welcome to the Plunderdome on October 6 via Sonic Envy Music.
Following 2019's Agitpop, the 12-track Welcome to the Plunderdome was produced by the five-piece themselves. Singer-songwriter Ron Hawkins shares, "This is the first time we've really produced a record together, and I'm thrilled at the results. I feel this is the perfect blend of capturing the energy of the band on the floor then adding a sprinkling of beautiful touches."
Those "beautiful touches" shine through on new arrival "Hey Kid (You Got Soul!)," on which the band are joined by horn section the Legitimizers, comprised of saxophonist Ruhee Dewji, trumpeter Stephen Dyte and trombonist Christian Overton.
Hawkins shares of the ska-leaning single, "It's about a kid who is so full of rage that he winds up in prison. There, he has an epiphany about turning your rage into something positive and the need to band together to change things. The song is a bit of a nod to my uncles, as I come from a family with bank robbers in it."
"Hey Kid (You Got Soul!)" also arrives alongside a video starring dancer Aranivah, which you can find below. Directed, shot and edited by drummer David Ray Alexander, the clip finds the dancer busting moves onscreen as the mobile device, with her TikTok profile loaded up, is carried around a well-lit midway.
Lowest of the Low have also shared fall tour plans for their home province. Following a performance in Orillia next week (September 21) alongside Reay, the band will play a series of October shows alongside By Divine Right, ahead of a November engagement in Hamilton alongside the Discarded.
