As cases of coronavirus surge amid the wave of Omicron infections in Ontario, Toronto's legendary Horseshoe Tavern and Lee's Palace have opted to hold off on all in-person events until after the holidays.
Both the front bar and the stage area of the Horseshoe were closed to the public last night (December 20) following an announcement from the venue's socials.
"In the interest of the health and safety of our staff, patrons and performers, the Horseshoe Tavern and Lee's Palace will be closed until Monday, January 3rd, 2022," the post reads. "This includes the Horseshoe Tavern front bar, which will be closing tonight, December 20th at 5 p.m. Ticket holders for any ticketed shows will be emailed with more information."
Events affected by the closure include the Sadies' New Year's Eve performances on the 30th and 31st, after a string of shows by Lowest of the Low and the Jim Cuddy Band were postponed last week at the Horseshoe. As previously reported, METZ were among the early shows postponed at Lee's Palace, a growing list that now includes Lemon Bucket's December 23 performance and the Monowhales' NYE show.
These performances join a string of Canadian concerts that have been cancelled following new COVID restrictions by Ontario, as well as Quebec and B.C. See a list of cancelled and postponed shows here.
