Loretta Lynn Comes 'Full Circle' on New Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 10, 2015

Legendary country singer Loretta Lynn hasn't released an album since 2004's Jack White-produced Van Lear Rose, but that's about to change, as the 83-year-old has announced Full Circle. This will be out on March 4 through Legacy Recordings.

Full Circle is made up of covers of traditional Appalachian folksongs and gospel music Lynn heard as a child, plus updated renditions of cuts from Lynn's back catalogue, as well as newly written songs. The album was produced by Loretta's daughter Patsy Lynn Russell, along with Johnny Cash's son John Carter Cash. Sessions took place at Cash's Tennessee studio Cash Cabin Studio.

The album includes 13 songs plus an introduction. Elvis Costello and Willie Nelson respectively appear on the last two tracks. See the tracklist below; it includes some notable folk and country tunes like "Always on My Mind," "In the Pines" and "Black Jack David." Opening cut "Whispering Sea" is a new version of the first song Lynn ever wrote.

This is the first in a string of new releases called Cash Cabin Recordings. It's not entirely clear from a press release if Lynn will be involved in all of the releases in the series or if different instalments will focus on other artists.

Additionally, Lynn is having her career celebrated with the PBS documentary American Masters — Loretta Lynn: Still a Mountain Girl, which will air on March 4.
