Liz Phair released her indie rock classic Exile in Guyville on June 22, 1993 — and she's celebrating today's 30th anniversary by releasing an outtake, "Miss Lucy."
A press release notes that the song was recorded with Exile producer Brad Wood during the album sessions, but was left off of the album in favour of "Flower." Fans have previously heard the song as part of Phair's early tapes under the name Girly-Sound, but this is the first time the Exile studio version has been released. It's a moody ballad that adapts the schoolyard song "Miss Susie" (a.k.a. "Hello Operator").
Matador will reissue Exile in Guyville on purple vinyl on October 20. Phair will take the album on tour this fall in the US, although there are no Canadian stops.
