Listen to Japanese Breakfast's Cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love"

She's also shared a re-recording of 'Jubilee' single "Be Sweet"

Japanese Breakfast is up for a Best New Artist and Best Alternative Album Grammy Award this Sunday (April 3), for her breakthrough 2021 album Jubilee. Winning would be major, but being nominated at all (even at an awards show as often laughable as the Grammys) is a pretty great cap on Michelle Zauner's massive year.

And to celebrate that fact, Zauner (who's been making music as Japanese Breakfast for six years now) has joined a slate of fellow 2022 Best New Artist nominees in recording covers of songs by previous Best New Artist nominees for Spotify. Zauner chose to cover Bon Iver's 2008 single "Skinny Love."

About the song choice, she said: "We decided to record Bon Iver's 'Skinny Love' because it felt like a very surprising cover for Japanese Breakfast. It's so moving and sparse. We felt we could add some interesting instrumentation to the track and celebrate our fellow label mate Bon Iver."

Last year, Japanese Breakfast shared a cover of Sufjan Stevens' "Romulus."

She's also shared a re-recorded version of Jubilee single "Be Sweet." Listen to both below.
