Liam Gallagher Drops Lawsuit Against Noel

Last week, Oasis's famously quarrelling Gallagher brothers took their feud to the next level when Liam sued his sibling for comments Noel made about the band's breakup. Now, the pair can go back to fighting without the presence of lawyers, since Liam just dropped the suit.

Noel previously claimed publicly that Liam pulled out of a gig at V Festival because of a hangover, and added that Oasis's break-up was sparked after Liam wanted to promote his Pretty Green clothing line in the band's tour program and was denied.

When he filed the libel suit in response to these allegations, Liam said, "All I want is an apology." Well, yesterday (August 23) Noel offered a rather half-hearted apology during an online fan chat, saying, "If he gets offended by my opinions on such things then you know I apologize but it's all getting very silly and a little bit out of hand and it's not very cool."

Sure enough, Liam has stuck to his word by dropping all legal action against his brother. Here's how it went down, according to the Sun's anonymous source:

Liam had spoken to his mum Peggy and she was upset by the whole episode. That was playing on his mind then he had a moment of realization that Noel wasn't being vindictive he was just being cheeky. It was an anger that had built up over two years because he was so angry Oasis was over. In the cold light of day he realized his brother was actually being quite calm about it all, and decided a legal battle was a bad idea. Hopefully that will draw a line under it all and everyone can move on.

UPDATE: Speaking to BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, Liam has now said of the ordeal, "It's not over yet," adding "If he [Noel] listens to his lawyers and does the right thing then it'll be well and truly over. I never wanted it to happen but it has to happen." However, it's still unclear if he's simply still puffing out his chest or actually going to bring this whole thing to court.
