Alberta-born songwriter Lexi Strate is gearing up to release her debut EP this year, and while details of its arrival remain scarce, Exclaim! is giving you a chance to hear the lead single "Diamond Eyes" before release.
In her raspy delivery, Strate sings a tale of the night before becoming the morning after, waiting by the phone for a call that may never come. Her melancholic verse gives way to an electro-pop chorus, in which she promises to "light up every night with my diamond eyes" over a smooth, laid-back rhythm section and electric guitars.
Strate's debut EP will be released through Edmonton's Hands Up! Music this year, but you can take a listen to "Diamond Eyes" in the player below in anticipation.
