Le Matos

'Chronicles of the Wasteland' / 'Turbo Kid OST' (album streams)

Montreal-based electronic experimenters Le Matos are the musical masterminds behind the score to this year's "BMX-powered post-apocalyptic love story" Turbo Kid, and the cinematic selection of songs is getting released as a sprawling double album next week. Before the two-part project arrives, Exclaim! is streaming the whole package a week early.

The first component is called Chronicles of the Wasteland and features original work that was inspired by the soundtracking process. The second collection is the film's soundtrack itself.

Cinematic synthwave vibes drench Chronicles of the Wasteland, blending brooding digitized soundscapes with catchy electro-pop that proves to be engaging even without any onscreen accompaniment.

As for the original motion picture soundtrack, if you haven't seen the movie yet, dramatically titled character-based compositions like "Vicious Rat," "The Arm Wrestler," "Skeletron" and "The Water Hunter" might pique your interest. There are also scene-setting selections like "The Playground," "Going to the Videostore," "The Hunt," "Pool Party" and "Robot Cemetary" that should give you an idea of the flick's outlandish adventures.

Chronicles of the Wasteland and the Turbo Kid OST are out on December 4 through Simone Records affiliate Fantôme Records, while the vinyl edition of Turbo Kid goes up for sale via Mondo on December 2. Listen to both albums in the pair of players below.

Le Matos will be celebrating the release with a show in Montreal at the Phi Centre on December 9.
