The Last Shadow Puppets

My Mistakes Were Made For You

BY Michael EdwardsPublished Jan 13, 2009

Considering the level of overexposure that the Arctic Monkeys received, the idea of a side-project wasn't particularly exciting. Yet the Last Shadow Puppets turned out to be a surprisingly worthy venture thanks to their widescreen, '60s-influenced music that was remarkably similar to what David Gedge attempted to do with Cinerama during his Wedding Present hiatus. My Mistakes Were Made For You is a North American exclusive EP that brings together some live tracks and acoustic versions of album tracks, along with the album version of the title track. There's nothing here that could be described as essential, although the live version of Lee Hazelwood's "Paris Summer" comes closes, but the quartet of acoustic songs are the most disappointing simply because they lack the lushness of the originals and seem pointless as a result. This is definitely for fans only. Everyone else should stick with the album instead.
