Knife Pleats

"One Step Too Far" / "Terrible"

Veteran Vancouver-based indie pop performer Rose Melberg (Tiger Trap, Go Sailor, the Softies, etc.) found a new set of musical soul mates in Love Cuts members Kaity McWhinney and Tracey Vath. The band was soon rounded out by drummer Gregor Phillips. Today, Exclaim! is proud to premiere the first recorded material from Knife Pleats.

"One Step Too Far" and "Terrible" are two more Melberg masterpieces, offering up some driving, melodic fuzz pop complete with plenty of vocal harmonies and driving instrumentation. Knife Pleats will surely become a new favourite for indie pop fans the world over.

"It had been a few years since I had written songs for a full band so I had a bit of a backlog of songs in my head," Melberg tells Exclaim! "I was eager to get a new band going so I started recording demos of the songs at home before I even had people to play with.... This project is a little different than some of my past projects in that I spent a little more time than usual with the songs on my own before I brought them to the band. It definitely made for some of the smoothest band practices I've ever had!"

Both tracks will appear on Hat Bark Beach, the debut album from Knife Pleats. It's set to arrive on September 29 (Melberg's birthday) via Lost Sound Tapes, who will handle the cassette and vinyl version. A CD is also in the works from Jigsaw Records.
