Joshua Van Tassel Takes Listeners on a 'Dream Date' with New LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 7, 2013

Back in the fall, Forward Music Group launched an experimental-leaning sub-label called Backward Music. That imprint's debut compilation included some tracks from Halifax instrumentalist Joshua Van Tassel, who will soon follow this up with his latest full-length. Dream Date is out through Backward on March 26.

These soundscapes evidently have a primate theme, since Van Tassel explained in a statement, "The idea is that you're being led through these scenes [of a dream] by a large (but friendly and gentle) gorilla/yeti-type creature. All of the songs on the album contain sounds from one another blended in some way, and each have a very specific story along with them. Hence the Dream Date title."

A press release notes that the musician has performed as a sideman with the likes of Doug Paisley, Great Lake Swimmers, David Myles, Royal Wood and Justin Rutledge. This is Van Tassel's third solo album.

3. The Warmest Heart
