And he doesn't seem to like Danger Mouse either

World-famous producer Rick Rubin is known for bringing the best out of artists — including Red Hot Chili Peppers, with whom he has collaborated many times, resulting in all of their best-known work. Former RHCP guitarist Josh Klinghoffer isn't so fond of Rubin, however, since he called the producer "way more a hindrance than a help" in a new interview.

Speaking with VWMusic, Klinghoffer reflected on his time with the Chili Peppers, admitting that he feels "incredibly conflicted about my output with that band."

About I'm with You, his 2011 album with band, he said, "I feel Rick Rubin was way more a hindrance than a help. He told me once, 'I just want to help the songs be the best they can be.' I should've said, 'Well, then get your driver to come and get you.'"

He was similarly critical, although far less specific, when speaking about Danger Mouse, who produced 2016's The Getaway. Klinghoffer said, "In both circumstances [I'm with You and The Getaway], producers got in the way of us truly making great music or a great record."

Evidently, the remaining members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers feel differently about Rubin, since they reunited with him for this year's Unlimited Love, as well as the upcoming follow-up Return of the Dream Canteen.

This might not be the last we hear on the subject from Klinghoffer, who told VWMusic of his time with the band, "Perhaps we can do a sit-down tell-all someday. I'm serious; someday, that'd be fun." He's been speaking very candidly in the press as of late, including offering some thoughts about Morrissey and cancel culture.
