Jonas Reinhardt & Abyss of Fathomless Light

'Rusting Ciphers of a Forgotten' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 3, 2012

On July 10, San Francisco synth lovers Jonas Reinhardt return with a collaborative full-length follow-up to last year's Music for the Tactile Dome. This time around they're joined by fellow San Franciscan Abyss of Fathomless Light (aka Bert Bergen), and you can listen to their new album Rusting Ciphers of a Forgotten Sky right now.

Despite the two-song tracklist, there is plenty to hear on the new record, which features two 15-minute-plus cuts.

The artists released a rather unsettling statement alongside the new material, which reads:

The decaying remnants of human industrial artifice surround us all. They document an era whose intended functionality is now lost. These structures stand wasting. Among immense hangers, towers and factories, emptiness screams. They now serve a different purpose. They are totems. We gaze upon these forms with awe and horror as they oscillate between blight and ecstasy and mirror our own emotional spectrum.

So, it might not the most cheerful sonic experience, but still well worth a listen. Composed of new pieces "Beneath the Liquid District of Amalgamation" and "White Kingdom of the Five Year Plan," Jonas Reinhardt and Abyss of Fathomless Light's new LP Rusting Ciphers of a Forgotten Sky is out July 10 via VCO Cassettes.

Also, Jonas Reinhardt have an EP on the way called Foam Fangs, which will be released on 100% Silk on July 24.
