John Doe and Exene Cervenka of X to Release Duets Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 3, 2012

John Doe and Exene Cervenka are best known as the voices of the classic Los Angeles punk band X. The longtime collaborators have also performed as a duo, and these stripped-down performances have spawned the duets album Singing & Playing, due out April 10 through Moonlight Graham Records.

Seven of these eight songs were recorded with producer Dave Way back in 2010 (the other is a live recording). That year, CD copies were available from the merch table at the pair's duo shows, and it's only now that it will be commercially available.

According to a press release, "The record showcases the duo's signature harmonic style and tradition of crafting thoughtful and socially conscious lyrics layered over a simple backdrop of folk-inspired acoustic and electric rhythm guitar."

See the tracklist below, and check out that live version of "See How We Are" at the bottom of the page.
