Jim O'Rourke has detailed the soundtrack for Hands That Bind, the feature film from Canadian director Kyle Armstrong. The movie's soundtrack album arrives digitally and on vinyl July 7 via Drag City Records.
While O'Rourke is no stranger to scoring films, the release of his music for Hands That Bind marks the first time a soundtrack of his has been released worldwide.
The eight compositions featured in the tracklist, found below, are said to make for a "moody, atmospheric delight," a minimal match for the "wide open, big sky landscape" of Armstrong's film. The Edmonton filmmaker and O'Rourke previously collaborated on 2018 film Until First Light.
Described as a "slow-burn prairie gothic drama" set in Armstrong's native Alberta, Hands That Bind follows a hired hand aiming to take over the farm from his boss farm, only to have those plans dashed upon the landowner's son returning to claim his birthright. The film stars Paul Sparks, Susan Kent, Landon Liboiron, Nicholas Campbell, Will Oldham of Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Bruce Dern.
