Jenn Grant has announced that her next album will be titled Love, Inevitable, and it's due out on May 31.
The record marks the follow-up to 2016's Paradise and hears the Halifax singer-songwriter branching out and working with producer Tucker Martine (after recording four consecutive albums with her husband, Daniel Ledwell).
Grant wrote the songs in Halifax using a Roland keyboard, acoustic guitar and banjo, then flew to Portland to record with Martine.
The album "is and isn't about motherhood," which Grant entered into after the release of Paradise. It's not specifically addressed, and yet it's impossible to detach that experience from the process of this record.
"Some of the guitar songs I wrote in this little window of a few days where I felt this kind of energy around me," Grant said in a statement. "I didn't know I was pregnant yet and those were when those songs were written. Those songs are special to me."
The first song that Grant has shared from the upcoming album is "Raven," and it arrives with a video directed by Ledwell.
"'Raven' came from a place of trying to find my own power when I was crowded with self-doubt," Grant said. "For me, it's about taking a step into the unknown and learning to trust yourself. It's about making a choice to let go of the idea that you needed something or someone, and finally stepping into your freedom."
