Immolation

Failure For Gods

BY Kevin Stewart-PankoPublished Aug 1, 1999

Flashy packaging and the odd mosh-metal groove aside, this album is completely mired in the muck that is generic death metal. The drummer loves them double bass drums and plays them relentlessly throughout most of this album, just to let you know that he can. The guitar sound has an odd transistorised quality to it and the glass gargling vocals are more annoying than horrifying. All of the shortcomings mentioned above might have been somewhat excusable had the band attempted to write and play something other than early ‘90s Morrisound death metal that continues to be played to death.
