Imaginary Cities Serve Up 'Leftovers' EP Before Going on Indefinite Hiatus

Winnipeg indie popsters Imaginary Cities released their last full-length, Fall of Romance, back in 2013, but it looks as if that will be the band's last full-length album for the foreseeable future.

The duo of Rusty Matyas and Marti Sarbit have announced that they will be putting their work with Imaginary Cities on hold to embark on new projects. But before they formally step out of the spotlight, they will release an EP titled Leftovers on August 12 through Hidden Pony/Votiv.

As the title implies, the upcoming release compiles a collection of four unused tracks from the Fall of Romance sessions, which the band are sending out as a "thank-you" to friends and fans. Despite not making it onto the original album, a press release promises that they still capture the "instantly ear-catching, sing-along harmonies and timeless pop and blues-inspired songwriting and production" style that the two-piece is known for.

Going forward, Matyas will continue to produce records for other artists, while pursuing a degree in music therapy. Sarbit, meanwhile, will continue creating music under the banner of Lanikai; the first sampling of the new project is expected to arrive next month.

For now, though, peruse the tracklisting for Leftovers below, and listen to the opening cut "Set My Heart on Fire" below.
