IKEA Finally Launching Its Own Record Player

The OBEGRÄNSAD turntable was made in collaboration with Swedish House Mafia

Pretty much everyone houses their vinyl collection in an IKEA-made KALLAX shelving unit (or even an old EXPEDIT shelf), and hangs treasured records in one of the company's 12-inch frames. Maybe some people even use SYMFONISK or ENEBY wireless speakers. Now, IKEA is continuing its takeover of your vinyl collection by launching a brand-name turntable.

In a very appropriate piece of brand synergy, IKEA is launching the OBEGRÄNSAD record player in collaboration with Swedish House Mafia. It was unveiled at this week's Salone del Mobile design event in Milan, Italy.

"The solid, chunky design gives the player a presence in the room," IKEA designer Friso Wiersma said of the turntable, which has a built-in pre-amp and can run through USB, in a statement. "It transmits the physicality of music in the collection, making it really claim space with the attitude of music woven into it — rather than making it blend."

The record player will be part of an entire OBEGRÄNSAD line of music-related pieces from IKEA and the EDM supergroup. There will be more than 20 products designed for music-makers, including a studio desk with shelves for monitors and a keyboard. See a promotional video about the line below.

IKEA previously announced plans for a record player in 2018, but it never reached production. Though the price of the OBEGRÄNSAD turntable has yet to be made public, an announcement promises that it will be "affordable."
