Well, it appears Frodo won't play Iggy Pop after all. Contrary to long-running rumours that Elijah Wood would star as Pop in an upcoming biopic, the godfather of punk said that the film is unlikely to ever to see the light of day, at least while Pop is among the living.
While speaking at a recent press conference, Pop was asked, "Is the biopic going on?"
Pop replied: "I don't think so. I reacted bad. It opens with my mother and father worrying about me. My father was alive at the time and it felt like an intrusion. They can wait for me to be dead. Fuck you, I won't do your biopic promo."
Word of the Pop biopic first came in 2007, and it was to be dubbed The Passenger, with Wood set to star and Nick Gomez (Drowning Mona) set to direct. There were reports the film was to hit theatres in 2007, then 2008 and finally sometime this summer. However, The Passenger no longer has a listing on internet movie bible IMDB, making its status - and very existence - unknown.
Pop's comments on the movie come as he prepares to release his "jazz album," Préliminaires, on June 2 via Astralwerks in the U.S. and globally on May 18 courtesy of EMI France.
