Brooding Copenhagen post-punks Iceage have changed a lot in the decade since their 2011 debut, but today we get a brand new facet of the band with their cover of Abra's 2016 single "Pull Up."
If Iceage covering a spacey, drug-hazed R&B party track was on your 2022 bingo card, then congrats. If it wasn't, swallow your surprise and enjoy the thrill of hearing Elias Bender Rønnenfelt sing "Pull up to your crib riding shotty, shawty / Pull up with your bitch, now it's a party."
Abra's original song is airy and hypnotic, and Iceage very much give it the Iceage treatment, adding heavy piano chords and pealing guitar. However, the band hold onto the song's hiccupping beat and Abra's rhythmic delivery. It works!
Abra returned last year with the Playboi Carti-assisted "Unlock It." That same year, Iceage released their fifth full-length Seek Shelter. They also shared the Adult Swim single "High & Hurt."
