The Highest Order

'If It's Real' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 11, 2013

The Highest Order is composed of One Hundred Dollars members SImone Schmidt, Paul Mortimer and Kyle Porter, joined by drummer Simone TB. The newly minted group will release their debut album, If It's Real, on March 19 through Idée Fixe Records. In advance of the official release date, you can stream the whole thing at Exclaim.ca.

The album was recorded with producer Jeff McMurrich (Fucked Up, Owen Pallett, the Luyas). It takes One Hundred Dollars' rootsy sound in a more trippy, atmospheric direction, with "Lonely Weekends" pairing dramatic vocal quivers with a heady psych groove and the chilled-out "Chain Mail" cloaking its waltz-time folksiness in reverb.

According to a press release, If It's Real is "a journey through cosmic country and classic rock, inspired by the likes of Gene Clark, the International Submarine Band and New Riders of the Purple Sage." It includes covers of "Luxury Liner" by Gram Parsons and "Lonely Weekends" by Charlie Rich. Listen at the bottom of this page.
