Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Mother Tongues, Backxwash, BAMBII, the Beaches

Happy Barbenheimer day to all who celebrate! While both box office blockbusters are obviously filmed in colour (hello, it's 2023), the brightness of Barbie certainly makes Oppenheimer seem nearly black-and-white with its sophistication and noted lack of Kenergy. The week's best new Canadian music captures both sides — that's duality, baby — of the great cinematic showdown.

Monochrome icon Backxwash teams up with Pelada, BAMBII puts being down bad plainly on "Slip Slide," and the Beaches cast the single life in a prismatic light on their latest Blame My Ex preview, "Me & Me."

The psychedelic haze continues into album releases, with a kaleidoscopic new LP from Toronto faves Mother Tongues (Love in a Vicious Way). There's also a new EP release from Winnipeg troubadour Boy Golden.

Elsewhere, P:ano reunite and Sissy return, myst milano. feels the "Pressure" weighing on recent Polaris Prize shortlistee, Dan Mangan, who's asking for your word. Orson Wilds and Northern Haze's qiyuapik also made album announcements.

Get the best of both worlds with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
