Hear Lana Del Rey's Cover of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads"

Lana Del Rey has been on country roads for a while now, having just wrapped a fall tour of the American South and Appalachia, where she connected further with the country sounds and aesthetics she's been playing with lately (and picked up a shift at Waffle House).

And now, Del Rey has shared her cover of John Denver's West Virginia classic "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Del Rey unsurprisingly turns it into a piano ballad, but her voice really suits the song, and she sounds great, accented by a chorus of backing vocals and some subtle pedal steel.

The song was apparently set to appear on an album of "American standards and classics" — which was also gonna feature Del Rey's cover of George Gershwin's "Summertime" — that was supposed to drop around Christmas 2020 but never came about.

It really makes you wanna hear a full-on country album from Del Rey, fingers crossed, and it just might happen. Del Rey's last album, Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, made it onto Exclaim!'s 50 Best Albums of 2023 list — check the list to find out where.
