Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Aqyila, Ducks Ltd. Cadence Weapon, the OBGMs

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Feb 9, 2024

Before you drop the bass and the spinach-artichoke dip for the Super Bowl on Sunday (February 11), you have plenty of pregaming to do. Even if you're not into sports! Sorry, I don't make the rules. The week's best new Canadian music will help you get in the spirit for the epic highs and lows of Taylor Swift's boyfriend battling it out for glory.

JUNO-nominated riser Aqyila blossoms on new single "Bloom," Cadence Weapon takes the internet to task, and the OBGMs want you to "GET UP."

It's probably the biggest week of album releases for 2024, with local faves Ducks Ltd. attaining jangle pop perfection (Harm's Way), as well as exciting new records from Talia Schlanger (Grace for the Going), oh caroline (monochrome), Loving, Eve Parker Finley, Nick Schofield and the Strumbellas.

Elsewhere, Bells Larsen covers Rostam, and Dan Mangan puts his spin on the Lumineers, while Jon McKiel casts a spell with "Hex." There are also new singles and album announcements from the likes of Homeshake and Tei Shi.

Score a touchdown (or whatever) by finding your next championship-winning jam with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
