On the heels of announcing her new album Miss_Anthropocene, Grimes has expanded on the album's concept, her personal life and more in a new interview.
Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, the artist born Claire Boucher (who asked to be referred to as c) elaborated on Miss_Anthropocene's conceptual ties to climate change, having previously revealed the narrative of "anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change."
"I want to make climate change fun. People don't care about it, because we're being guilted," she told the publication. "I see the polar bear and want to kill myself. No one wants to look at it, you know? I want to make a reason to look at it. I want to make it beautiful."
While a concrete release date for Miss_Anthropocene has yet to be set, the Wall Street Journal notes that the album is set to arrive this summer. Along with changing her name to c, Boucher also revealed that her current "Grimes" persona may not be sticking around either.
"I think I'll kill 'Grimes' soon," she said. "It will be a public execution followed by — by something else. I shouldn't say yet," adding, "I'm super bound by the limits I've set for myself [with Grimes]. It would be easier for me if I wasn't stuck with the branding I made in 2009, you know?"
Of course, the subject of Elon Musk arose, with WSJ writing that Boucher "nearly collapse[d] on the floor in a long, pained groan" at the mention. "Don't tell him I groaned just now," she said. "I groaned out of, I don't know, feminism. I mean, he's a super-interesting goddamn person."
She later added, "And look, I love him," and "he's great."
