Radiohead's In Rainbows came out in 2007, but its "pay what you want" release remains a landmark moment in online music distribution. Montreal experimentalist Grimes (aka Claire Boucher) has opted to follow a similar model to release her new album, Halfaxa.
The album is out now via Arbutus Records. If you go here, you'll find a link to the full album with two options: "Don't Donate" and "Donate." You can pay as much or as little as you want, and either way you will get the full 15-song album.
Grimes has also released the album on CD, and you can pick up a disc in gatefold packaging for just $8 (plus shipping).
Last month, Boucher told us, "This album is more like medieval times⦠I want to combine the feeling of sitting in a beautiful church with a reverb-y choir, but I want to combine that with the feeling of dancing to really good music."
