If you even thought of blinking during hometown crew Greys' set at Adelaide Hall on Saturday evening, you may have missed the power-packed half-hour of what frontman Shehzaad Jiwani called "blistering rock music." You may have also been unable to find a more apt description of the sonic fury that was brought to the basement stage, made up of Jiwani's forceful shouts, the grungy guitars of Cam Graham, the overpowering growl of Colin Gillespie's bass and the kit work of Braeden Craig — who is easily one of the hardest-hitting drummers this year's NXNE has seen.

It was nothing short of liberating to watch the self-described "noisy boiz" swinging the headstocks of their respective stringed instruments skyward, narrowly missing the dangling light bulb décor each time. Treating the crowd to some familiar noisy cuts, the four-piece also played two new tracks that Jiwani said would see a release soon. The first revolved around a slow, grinding guitar riff while the second hooked the audience with a poppy verse section before exploding into thrashing abandon. Catching their set without a good pair of earplugs was not for the faint of heart (or hearing).
