Last year's Grammy Awards ceremony had its fair share of celebrity drama and surprise wins, and the major musical awards show is set to return once again on February 15. The nominees have just been announced.
Kendrick Lamar delivered To Pimp a Buttterfly this year to much acclaim, and the Compton rapper leads the pack with 11 nominations. Toronto's own the Weeknd and pop superstar Taylor Swift, meanwhile, managed to nab seven each. Exclaim! Best of 2015 issue cover stars Alabama Shakes are nominated for a total of six awards and Drake is up for five.
D'Angelo's "Really Love," Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk," Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" and the Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face" make up the Record of the Year Category this time around.
As for Album of the Year, it will be a battle between Alabama Shakes' Sound & Color, Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, Chris Stapleton's Traveller, Taylor Swift's 1989 and the Weeknd's Beauty Behind the Madness.
Elsewhere, Australian rock wordsmith Courtney Barnett got a nod for Best New Artist, joined in the category by James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor. Also of note is that Light in the Attic's Native North America (Vol.1): Aboriginal Folk, Rock, And Country 1966–1985, which was curated by Vancouver's Kevin Howes, was nominated for Best Historical Album.
