Gorillaz to Hit the Studio This Fall

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 16, 2015

Last year, in the midst of supporting his debut solo album Everyday Robots, Damon Albarn revealed ambitious plans for a number of his musical projects. He's since delivered on the musical theatre adaptation of a children's book and a massive Blur comeback, and now he's making good on his promise of new Gorillaz material.

Albarn's co-creator of the virtual band, illustrator Jamie Hewlett, recently shared new artwork of members Noodle, Murdoc and Russell on Instagram, prompting rumours that something was in the works.

Albarn has since appeared on Australian TV program ABC 7.30, confirming that he will be returning to the studio to make a new Gorillaz record.

"I'm starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record," he said. "I've just been really, really busy so I haven't had a chance. I'd love to just get back in to that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week."

The new album will mark the first since The Fall was released back in 2010.
