After Spotify reportedly ditched its plans to buy streaming service SoundCloud late last month, Google is reported to be the latest tech suitor interested in acquiring the platform.
Music Business Worldwide reports that "high-level rumours" say Google is "very interested" in the acquisition, also claiming that SoundCloud could now be purchased by the company for closer to $500 million USD. This new price tag is around half of what Spotify had hope to initially acquire SoundCloud for.
The report also highlights that should a sale to Google happen, Universal, Sony and Warner will all receive a cut thanks to their ownership stakes in the company, which were confirmed through looking at SoundCloud's financial filings. Rough approximations done by Music Business Worldwide show that the three majors would get a cut of $45 million USD between them.
