My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way Will Reportedly Score Kevin Smith's 'Clerks 3'

My Chemical Romance's frontman Gerard Way will reportedly be scoring Kevin Smith's third Clerks film.

Smith is currently touring in support of his Jay and Silent Bob Reboot film, and as /Film reports, the director apparently revealed to a theatre audience that he's enlisted Way to do the score for Clerks 3.

However, you may want to take the news with a grain of salt, as the reveal comes via one of the publication's readers, with neither Smith nor Way officially confirming the news to the media. If the report turns out to be accurate, however, this would mark Way's first time composing an entire score for a film.

That said, Way has contributed original songs to various films over the years. In fact, Smith and Way previously worked together on 2014's Tusk, when Way provided a solo track for the soundtrack.

So far, few firm details about Clerks 3 have been revealed. But in an interview with The Wrap, Smith did shed some light on the upcoming Clerks instalment. Apparently, the director gleaned some inspiration when he suffered a heart attack in 2018.

"Randal has a heart attack, decides that he came so close to death, and his life has meant nothing, there's nobody to memorialize him, he has no family or anything like that," Smith told the publication. "And in the recovery, while under fentanyl, he comes to the conclusion at mid-life, having almost died, having worked in a movie store his whole life and watched other people's movies, he tells Dante, I think we need to make a movie. So Dante and Randal make Clerks. That's the story of Clerks 3."

Meanwhile, Way has been busy in the film industry as of late — with his small-screen adaptation of his graphic novel series, The Umbrella Academy. The first season of the series ended recently and the second season is currently in production. While he has decidedly been taking an extended hiatus from music, the emo icon has shared a handful of one-off tracks recently.
