Georgie James

"Need Your Needs”

So far the outcome of Q & Not U’s demise has provided fans with unlikely output. Christopher Richards went on his own as Ris Paul Ric and achieved a wondrous pop record balanced by splendent neo-psychedelia, folk and electronic textures. Meanwhile, ever since the DC-based, consonant-loving/vowel-hating post-punkers split, drummer John Davis has taken it upon himself to step from behind the kit and craft gushy pop songs with partner Laura Burhenn. Surprisingly uncomplicated and rather lush, this title track from their new EP is pushing for widespread esteem, with an exuberant, rollerskate-rink bound outlook. They throw in some very insignificant angular riffing that feels as though Davis needs to remind people of his roots, but really, with such a danceable lift and affable melodies, Georgie James are unmistakably designed for mass consumption and they’ve got the lead-off track to take them places Q & Not U could never reach.
