Future Islands' Sam Herring and Madlib Team Up for 12-inch EP

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 17, 2015

Future Islands may be best known for sweeping the nation with the infectiously poppy indie rock sound they delivered on Singles, but frontman Sam Herring is switching things up a bit for a new project. He's teamed up with rapper and producer extraordinaire Madlib under the moniker Trouble Knows Me, and the pair will be releasing a 12-inch EP by the end of summer.

The self-titled, Madlib-produced, six-song offering will arrive on September 1 via Madlib Invazion.

Side A of the EP features three tracks with rap vocals and three instrumentals. The flip side features the instrumentals for those rap tracks.

While the official release date isn't until September, 150 limited run copies — with artwork screen-printed during the show — will be available at Madlib's concert this evening (July 17) at the Mid in Chicago; 150 copies will also be available in Los Angeles at the Rappcats popup shop. A few will be available online here.

The artwork was designed by Gustavo Eandi and Jeff Jank, and printed by Hit & Run. There are 15-20 variations of the cover design, each hand-printed.
