With the release of a new single called "Waking Up in Los Angeles," Eric D. Johnson's Fruit Bats have shared plans of a 2023 North American tour that will bring them to Canada in April and May.
Kicking off in Indianapolis on April 12 — following a run of the UK with Johnson's Bonny Light Horseman side-project — the 26-date trek will bring group to Toronto on April 18. From there, they'll head south, performing in New York, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and more, before ending the trek in Vancouver on May 27.
Tickets for the tour go on sale here on Friday, November 18 at 10 a.m. ET.
To get things in a celebratory mood, Johnson has shared Fruit Bats' first new recording since 2021's The Pet Parade. "This is a sad song masquerading as a happy one," he said of the new single. "Or maybe vice versa? This might be the first song I've written where the first verse is a disclaimer – and, yes, I am talking to YOU with this one."
He added: "This is about spiritual homes, the geography of the heart, and waking up in a weird, hard world where the birds still sing."
