Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes Modern Ruin

Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes Modern Ruin
7
The latest from former Gallows frontman Frank Carter proves that old habits die hard. Modern Ruin draws heavily from Carter's punk beginnings, as he infuses the swinging alt-rock with a myriad of punchy, gritty moments that punctuate the 12-song set.

Relying on full-bodied guitar hooks, the choruses of songs like "Lullaby" and "God Is My Friend" soar, thanks particularly to Carter's singing voice. He keeps it varied across the record, though, employing his signature shouts on the succinct punk foray "Jackals" and the title track, an album highlight on which Carter dips and dives between subdued verses and absolutely unrestrained choruses.

The dynamism here continues with sprawling closer "Neon Rust" and "Thunder," the latter a slow crescendo that comes to a poignant boiling point. Modern Ruin is a solid, well-balanced effort that showcases Frank Carter's versatility as an artist while pleasing fans of his previous work. (International Death Cult)
