Fox Glove

"Devil's Grin"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 13, 2017

Victoria-based folk trio Fox Glove are planning to release their debut album next year, but before a full LP arrives, Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to a new single called "Devil's Grin."

The track was written back in 2015 on Salt Spring Island, then polished up and recorded at Infiniti Studios and Rainbow Studios in Victoria with producers Sam Weber and Neil Cooke-Dallin. The group describe the tune as a siren's song, situated in the grey area between saint and sinner — "vulnerable yet tempting, offering no reward but sweet ruin as it invites you in."

The band's Renn Madeleine Bibeau elaborates on the track, calling it "a representation of our evolution as a band." It hears them toying with a range of sounds and layers, ultimately creating a "cinematic foundation" that provides "a perfect foil to our vocal focus and dark lyricism."

You'll be able to hear Fox Glove bring their sound to life on stage at a couple upcoming shows during Canadian Music Week in Toronto. They play on April 19 at the Paddock Tavern and on April 22 at Burdock with Sam Weber.

Before you see them live, though, get acquainted with new single "Devil's Grin" in the player below.
