Federal Lights are ready to follow-up their 2013 debut We Were Found in the Fog with a new record called Coeur de Lion. And while the new LP doesn't officially arrive until next week, Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to the whole thing right now.
The Winnipeg-based pop-rockers worked with producer Rusty Matyas (Imaginary Cities, the Sheepdogs) on the new material, crafting songs that search for the beauty in everyday moments and the silver linings in simple or sad situations.
The 12 new tracks share a sense of hope and yearning, conveyed with motifs of light ("Dark of the Night," "Then Came the Light"), love ("You & I," "Coeur de Lion") and disappearance ("The Ghost [Rises]," "Ctrl.Alt.Delete," "The Ghost [Moves]").
But despite darker themes and moments of musical solemnity, the record is buoyed by uplifting synths, gorgeous piano, and dramatic crescendos that showcase the group's knack for lush, layered orchestral pop.
Let Federal Lights lead you on their latest sonic journey by giving Coeur de Lion an advanced listen in the player below. The album is out January 29 on Aporia Records, but you can scroll past the band's upcoming tour dates to hear it right now.
