The record was inspired by the classical poems of Arab women

Fatima Al Qadiri has detailed a new album. The producer and composer will share Medieval Femme on May 14 through Hyperdub.

Following 2017's Shaneera EP, the 10-song Medieval Femme was inspired by the poetry of Arab women from the medieval period.

Al Qadiri's compositions aim to take listeners to "a place of reverie and desolation, to question the line between two seemingly opposite states and rejoice in celestial sorrow."

"Malaak" is the first song from the album to arrive, and you can hear it below. A vinyl edition of Medieval Femme will see release on July 23, following the arrival of digital and CD editions in May.

Medieval Femme marks Al Qadiri's first full-length since 2016's Brute. In 2019, she scored Mati Diop's film Atlantics.
