Evening Hymns

"All My Life I Have Been Running"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 29, 2015

Evening Hymns have been talking about the follow-up to 2012's Spectral Dusk for a while now, and have even confirmed release details and shared an album trailer for the upcoming Quiet Energies. Now, the Jonas Bonnetta-led project has finally unveiled the first single from the forthcoming album.

"'All My Life I Have Been Running' is about gaining clarity and finding comfort in chaos," Bonnetta said in a press release. "I was seeking release when I made & toured my last record, but eventually I realized nothing was ever going to satisfy me if I kept analyzing everything with so much intensity. I needed to write a ripper — a song with a Tom Petty bridge — about accepting who I am and how I perceive the world. Everything has led to this distinct level of clarity that I have now about my Dad passing away."

It definitely keeps in line with Bonnetta's assertion that the new material would deliver a more rock'n'roll vibe, as it bursts out of the gate with crunchy guitars and pounding drums. The verses build into a euphoric chorus, then eventually a string-laden bridge that will surely incite some clap-alongs when it makes it to the stage.
