Guitar, bass, and drums: it's a setup that's served traditional bands for decades. Electro Guzzi, however, take these commonplace instruments and use them to make funky techno. The live elements made their EM15 show instantly engaging to any passersby, while the music itself is so instantly likeable that it's near-impossible not to groove to. The drummer, Bernhard Breuer, and bassist, Jakob Schneidewind, both had the relatively easy task of keeping a 4/4 rhythm, but it was guitarist Bernhard Hammer who led the procession with tight strumming and his trusty effects pedals riding sidecar.
The whole show was performed as one continuous jam session — whether it was rehearsed or improvised doesn't alter the fact that this was an impressive bout of musicianship. Electro Guzzi showed that you don't have to make rock music with standard instruments, and that you certainly don't need computers to make dance music.
