What do artists eat to fuel themselves in a world of differing tastes, dietary restrictions, and Taco Bell being unable to subsidize the hunger of every last touring act? The world will soon learn thanks to a new book about "eating on tour with indie musicians."
Co-authored by Real Estate bassist Alex Bleeker and food and travel writer Luke Pyenson (former drummer of Frankie Cosmos), Taste in Music: Eating on Tour with Indie Musicians will explore what the former calls "the intersection of two of my favourite things: going on tour and eating."
Arriving September 24 via Chronicle Books, the book features food stories and anecdotes from the likes of Weyes Blood, Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold, Bob Mould, Chris Frantz (Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club), Pavement's Mark Ibold, Devendra Banhart, Kevin Morby, Portugal. The Man's John Gourley, Sylvan Esso's Amelia Meath, Dr. Dog's Eric Slick, Dawn Richard, the Beths, Sadie Dupuis (Speedy Ortiz), Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang (Galaxie 500, Damon & Naomi), PUP's Steve Sladkowski, SASAMI and more.
Per an abstract, the "illuminating and thought-provoking stories" collected within Taste in Music "deal with the best parts of touring: meaningful cultural exchange, hospitality-induced euphoria, and the opportunity to build relationships around the world. And the worst: loneliness, exhaustion, estrangement from family and friends, struggles with disordered eating, and unsteady access to medical care."
