They kept us waiting a fashionable seven years, but Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes have arrived, leather-clad, hot-fleshed and ready to rock'n'roll. The Eagles of Death Metal are back.

On their fourth studio LP, the Eagles hork up another fast-paced spitball akin to their previous releases, Death by Sexy and Peace, Love, Death Metal. The resulting sputum is dripping with indulgent riffs, outrageous innuendo and self-aggrandizing glory — and it's extraordinary.

Hughes and Homme spent their hiatus working on high-profile side projects: Hughes penned an eloquent passage for Paul Miles' Sex Tips From Rock Stars, released his solo debut Honkey Kong under the moniker Boots Electric, and became an ordained minister with the Universal One Church; Homme posted up in the desert to produce the Arctic Monkeys' Humbug and record Queens of the Stone Age's ...Like Clockwork. Zipper Down reflects the artistic development and experiences that the boys cultivated over the years — aside, of course, from Hughes' religious experience. There is absolutely none of that.

In a style true to classic Eagles of Death Metal, the album rips open with the wildly shaking tambourines of "Complexity," and then staggers into the album's first single, "Silverlake (K.S.O.F.M.)," a track that taunts the bohemians of L.A.'s hipster mecca. They treat us to some loving on "I Love You All the Time" (because Mr. Boogie Man and Carlo Von Sexron always have a little time for romance), but the dangerously funky beats of the ensuing "Oh Girl" chase the butterflies away. It gets even funkier when "Got the Power" hits, and the gyration continues through "Skin Tight Boogie" and "The Deuce," a shining track that finds the band revelling in rock'n'roll glory.

After 11 tracks of lewd, enlivened and indulgent riffage, it appears time hasn't rusted the swivel and swagger of Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme; Zipper Down finds the Eagles of Death Metal as greased up and ready to rock as ever.
