While Drake's beloved Kentucky Wildcats fell to the UCONN Huskies in the NCAA basketball finals on Monday (April 7), the rapper's sports game hasn't been a complete washout this week. It's just been revealed that the Toronto MC will be on his best behaviour this summer as the host of ESPN's Annual ESPY Awards.
Drake made the announcement today (April 9) over Instagram, posting a tongue-in-cheek recreation of the Nothing Was the Same artwork, now finding our man Aubrey staring at a giant trophy. "Honored to be this year's @ESPYS host," he wrote, confirming his duties for the July 16 awards show.
Champagne Papi's participation in the awards show ceremony shouldn't be that surprising, considering the rapper spends part of his time away from the microphone acting as the "global ambassador" to the Toronto Raptors.
The ESPYS, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award, hand out trophies to a variety of athletes, from the NFL, NHL and NBA to bowlers, golfers and more. Last year, the show was hosted by Mad Men star Jon Hamm.
