DJ Mehdi

'Loukoums'

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Sep 19, 2011

As recently reported, French producer DJ Mehdi tragically passed away last week in a freak accident. In honour of the fallen DJ, his label Ed Banger has now shared a mix of outtakes and rarities called Loukoums.

Mehdi originally released the collection back in 2006 as an extremely limited run of 200 copies, taking inspiration from the J Dilla comp Donuts. Today (September 19), Ed Banger boss Busy P shared the Mehdi mix online.

Back in 2006, Mehdi had this to say about Loukoums:

"Based on the DONUTS album concept, these are demos, out-takes and unreleased gems from various records I worked on before and during the making of LUCKY BOY, my next album. Stuff comes from MEGALOPOLIS, 113 DEGRES and SHEITAN soundtrack mainly, but some is older too. Hope you enjoy these rough mixes and un-polished sounds, as I pay hommage to 'one of the greatest minds to ever make beats,' Mr James Yancey, better known as JAY DEE, also know as DILLA."
